Toptal is looking for a senior-level Business Analyst to provide critical insights and recommendations to business leaders. You will support leaders across Customer and Talent functions, focusing initially on Talent Operations and its largest strategic initiatives. You’ll use data to shape acquisition, retention, and segmentation strategies for clients and elite freelance talent, building models, forecasting outcomes, and driving data‑backed decisions. This is a remote position. No visa sponsorship or assistance. Resumes and communication must be submitted in English.
Responsibilities
- Analyze data, build models, test hypotheses, find root causes, develop prototypes, forecast performance, create Tableau reports, and write SQL scripts; extract insights to inform decisions.
- Apply financial analysis to assess and recommend profitable business decisions.
- Use descriptive and diagnostic analytics to develop actionable recommendations for business leaders.
- Define metrics that are independent, holistic, accurate, align with strategy, and encourage desired behaviours.
- Map business processes to corresponding data flows.
- Identify and surface opportunities to improve efficiency, conversion, revenue, client and talent experience, operations, communication, systems & tools, and cash usage.
- Work closely with data analysts, scientists, report developers, and process owners to empower data‑backed decision making.
- Develop and drive data‑backed strategies for the full client and talent lifecycle, including modeling acquisition funnels, building segmentation models, analyzing retention drivers, and identifying cross‑functional process improvements.
Qualifications and Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 5+ years of experience in data analysis, analytics, or business intelligence.
- 2+ years within general consulting or an analytical operations function.
- Strong background in mathematics, science, finance, engineering, or statistics and deep business insight; advanced degrees/MBA is a plus.
- Experience with BI tools (Tableau, Qlik, PowerBI, etc.).
- Proficiency in SQL; experience with R, Python, or MATLAB is a plus.
- Experience with exploratory data analysis, prototyping, hypothesis testing, root cause analysis, business process modeling, forecasting, predictive modeling, metric definition, or performance measurement.
- Track record of linking data and analytics to business strategy, financial performance, and operations to drive real impact.
- Proven experience developing analytical frameworks for strategic business problems such as customer/user segmentation, LTV modeling, churn analysis, or funnel conversion optimization.
- Knowledge of probability and statistics; experience with process improvement is a plus.
- Ability to explain complex issues simply and intuitively, challenge assumptions, communicate limitations, and flag blind spots.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, rapidly growing company and handle a wide range of challenges and contacts.
- Must be a world‑class individual contributor and thrive at Toptal; not a commander of others.
