About the Role

As a Childcare Apprentice, you will gain hands‑on experience with young children while working towards a Level 2 qualification in early years education. The qualification covers knowledge of children from birth to 7 years and focuses on ages 0‑5, meeting the Department for Education's Level 2 criteria. You will be assessed on‑site, complete written tasks, and receive online support from your assessor. Upon completion, you will qualify as a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner.

What does the role involve?
- Assist in providing a safe environment for children
- Support daily, weekly and monthly checks around the nursery
- Help maintain clean, tidy premises and assist in meal preparation
- Assist colleagues in developing relationships with local schools and charities, and support community involvement
- Take children on trips and assist with school pick‑ups
- Support children’s behaviour and act as a role model
- Ensure the environment is stimulating and appropriate, including displays, layout and equal‑opportunity provision
Qualifications and Requirements
- Passion and enthusiasm for starting a career in childcare
- No prior experience or qualifications required; must be 17 or over
- Commitment to the role and good work ethic; effective communication with staff and children; treat all with respect and care
- Enhanced DBS check (update service) required; background checks must be satisfactory; not applicable if on Children’s Barred List
About the Nursery
Tops Trowbridge Nursery is a brand‑new 2026 opening and the largest nursery within the Tops family. It offers an exciting opportunity to join from the beginning. The nursery features a spacious, purpose‑built layout with age‑specific rooms, supporting children from 3 months to preschool through independent, play‑based learning. Children enjoy regular outdoor exploration, Forest School and hands‑on experiences that encourage curiosity and confidence. The team works closely with families and offers enrichment such as Cooking School and Forest School.
