Level 3 Childcare Apprenticeship – The Old School Nursery
Shoots Training are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking individual to complete their Level 3 Childcare Apprenticeship at The Old School Nursery.
At the Old School Nursery Shapwick, we aim to create a safe, happy, loving environment where children can learn, grow and flourish, preparing them for the next stage of their amazing lives. We provide a home away from home, set in the countryside location of the village of Shapwick. We create an atmosphere that encourages the enquiring, expanding thoughts, fascinations, and imagination of the children in a safe and caring environment.
We care for children between 3 months to 5 years. Ground floor accessible. First floor Stanna stairlift. Breakout room available for small group and 1 to 1 sessions. Wheelchair accessible first floor preschool with open plan access. Dedicated full-time SENCO to work alongside children with additional needs.
The Old School Nursery aims to welcome all children and families to our home away from home style nursery. We create an atmosphere to encourage all children to learn and develop from their starting points whatever they may be. We support children to follow their fascinations, expand their thoughts and engage in our community through play. We regularly work with a variety of outside professionals who aid and support us to tailor development plans and targets. We adapt our play environments to meet the needs of the children who are in on a daily basis and this flexibility enables all children to thrive.
At the Old School Nursery, we encourage positive partnerships with parents by ensuring they are informed of any additional support we believe their child might benefit from. We assist with the referral process as needed and help with early intervention from our trained Special Education Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) Frances, who has more than 5 years’ experience working in complex special educational needs. Frances also has training in autism, Picture Exchange Communication (PECs), sign along, intensive interaction, sensory integration, emotional literacy support and Attention Autism.
We take pride in our key worker approach, building positive attachments for all children. The SENCO and key person work together to ensure that the right support is in place for each child.
Your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Implementing engaging and age-appropriate educational activities for children.
- Providing a safe and supportive environment for children to explore and learn.
- Collaborating with parents and caregivers to ensure the well-being of each child.
- Monitoring and documenting children's progress and behaviour.
- Promoting social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development through play-based learning.
- Maintaining a clean and organized classroom setting.
- Demonstrating leadership skills in guiding assistant educators and support staff.
Experience:
- Previous experience working in a nursery or early childhood education setting.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while prioritising the needs of the children.
- A drive to continuously improve teaching practices and stay updated on best practices in early childhood education.
- Proficiency in English language both written and verbal.
- Knowledge of child development theories and practices related to early years education.

Requirements:
- A Level 2 Childcare qualification is essential.
- Proficiency in English language both written and verbal.

Hours:
The Old School Nursery is open from 7:45am – 6:00pm Monday to Friday. The successful candidate will be required to work 30-40 hours per week (3-4 days per week role (10 hours per day)).
