TOPRA (The Organisation for Professionals in Regulatory Affairs) was established in 1978 and is a professional membership organisation of Regulatory Affairs. TOPRA’s membership body consists of individuals within healthcare (i.e., pharmaceutical, biotech, or health technology). The industry is responsible for regulating the manufacturing, distribution, and usage of specific healthcare interventions and to ensure this complies with strict laws and regulations for those who work in healthcare. TOPRA supports its members with training, development, and education and improves professional competence while setting standards for those who work in Regulatory Affairs. TOPRA provides networking and learning opportunities for its members and discussions on best practices through workshops, seminars, conferences, symposiums, etc.

Job Summary

The Content Editor supports the delivery of TOPRA’s editorial and publishing activities, with a focus on Regulatory Rapporteur, TOPRA’s peer-reviewed journal, and associated digital and multimedia content. Reporting to the Managing Editor, the Content Editor will assist with commissioning, editing, and producing content for print and digital publication, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality. They will also contribute to the creation of news stories, social media posts, newsletters, and other member communications that strengthen TOPRA’s profile as a global voice in regulatory affairs. The Content Editor will work closely with the Managing Editor, volunteer contributors, and internal colleagues across Marketing, Communities, and Events. The role requires excellent writing and editing skills, attention to detail, and an interest in developing engaging, accessible content across multiple channels. This opportunity will suit a motivated, creative communicator who enjoys variety, collaboration, and thinking beyond traditional publishing formats.

Key Responsibilities

  • Editorial and Production Support
    • Assist in the editorial planning, production, and delivery of Regulatory Rapporteur and related content.
    • Sub-edit, proofread, and prepare articles for online publication to ensure they meet style, tone, and accuracy standards.
    • Support layout, imagery selection, and metadata tagging for the online platform to optimise readability and discoverability.
    • Maintain editorial schedules and workflows to ensure deadlines are met.
    • Liaise with authors, reviewers, and volunteer editors to support smooth content delivery.
    • Assist with member journal-related queries, and copyright and licensing requests.
  • Digital and Multimedia Content
    • Contribute to the development of engaging digital content, including articles, podcasts, videos, and online features that complement Regulatory Rapporteur themes.
    • Support the promotion of editorial content across digital and social media channels in collaboration with the Marketing team.
    • Assist in maintaining and updating online content, ensuring relevance, accuracy, and strong user experience.
    • Help monitor engagement metrics and reader feedback, using insights to suggest new content ideas or improvements.
  • Writing and Content Creation
    • Research and write short articles, news pieces, and member stories for digital publication and newsletters.
    • Produce and edit content for a range of corporate communications, including event coverage, membership updates, and promotional materials.
    • Generate creative ideas for new content formats, features, and campaigns that highlight TOPRA’s thought leadership.
    • Support the development of regular newsletters and contribute to the creation of email and social media copy that drives engagement.
    • Support the development of a volunteer recognition scheme, through targeted articles/insights within newsletters or other marketing engagement activities.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Work closely with the Managing Editor to coordinate editorial production and contribute to long-term content planning.
    • Collaborate actively with the wider Marketing team to ensure editorial content supports organisational campaigns, member engagement, and brand objectives.
    • Contribute ideas and content for newsletters, email campaigns, and social media activity associated with Regulatory Rapporteur in coordination with colleagues across the organisation.
    • Liaise with external contributors and suppliers, maintaining positive and professional relationships.
    • Contribute proactively to team meetings and share ideas to improve processes, storytelling, and audience engagement.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Essential:
    • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related discipline.
    • Proven experience in editing, writing, or producing content for print, digital, or online platforms.
    • Excellent command of written English, with exceptional accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to write clearly for professional audiences.
    • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet multiple deadlines.
    • Good understanding of social media and digital communication principles.
    • Collaborative approach with strong interpersonal skills.
    • Creative mindset, willing to share ideas, think outside the box, and adapt to evolving priorities.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience working within a membership, B2B publishing, or not-for-profit organisation.
    • Knowledge of the healthcare, life sciences, or regulatory affairs sector.
    • Experience supporting podcasts, video editing, or other multimedia formats.
    • Understanding of online content optimisation.
