  • HR Apprentice Hull, UK Hybrid - 3 days on-site Full-time - 35 hours per week
  • Position Summary

The HR Apprentice provides people-related administrative and coordination support across the employee lifecycle while developing practical people management and HR knowledge and professional capability.

Working under the guidance of the HR team, the role supports recruitment, onboarding, employee records, benefits administration, reporting and day-to-day employee queries.

The position offers structured development through workplace learning and an appropriate HR apprenticeship programme - Level 3 HR Support.

The HR Apprentice is expected to work accurately, maintain confidentiality, provide a positive employee experience, and gradually take on greater responsibility as knowledge and competence develop.

  • Primary Responsibilities
  • HR Administration & Employee Records
  • Support the accurate maintenance of employee records, people data, HR systems, files and documentation.
  • Prepare routine letters, forms, reports and employee communications using approved templates.
  • Process employee changes promptly and accurately, escalating queries or discrepancies where required.
  • Handle personal and sensitive information confidentially and in line with data protection requirements.
  • Recruitment, Onboarding & Offboarding
  • Support recruitment activity, including advertising vacancies, arranging interviews and communicating with candidates and managers.
  • Coordinate pre-employment checks, references, contracts, induction information and new starter documentation.
  • Support a consistent onboarding experience and ensure required records and actions are completed.
  • Assist with leaver administration, exit documentation, system updates and relevant notifications.
  • Payroll, Benefits & Employee Changes
  • Collate and check people and HR information required by payroll and external providers, working within agreed deadlines.
  • Support the administration of pensions, private medical cover, holidays, long-service recognition and other employee benefits.
  • Help respond to routine payroll and benefits queries, referring complex or sensitive matters to the appropriate HR team member.
  • Maintain accurate trackers and follow actions through to completion.
  • Employee & Manager Support
  • Act as a helpful first point of contact for routine people and HR queries and signpost employees and managers to the correct guidance or support.
  • Support managers with standard people related and HR processes and documentation under the direction of the HR team.
  • Assist with meeting coordination, note‑taking and follow‑up actions where appropriate.
  • Provide a professional, approachable and people‑focused HR service.
  • Reporting, Process Improvement & Projects
  • Prepare regular people and HR reports and management information, checking data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Support the review and maintenance of job descriptions, process documents, templates and employee information.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify or improve administrative processes and raise suggestions with the HR team.
  • Contribute to HR projects and people initiatives, engagement activities, learning initiatives and other business priorities.
  • Learning & Professional Development
  • Complete the required apprenticeship learning, assignments and assessments within agreed timescales.
  • Apply learning in the workplace and actively seek feedback to build confidence and competence.
  • Develop an understanding of employment legislation, HR policies, people practices, ethical practice and accepted professional standards.
  • Take responsibility for personal development and progressively broaden knowledge across the employee lifecycle.
  • Nature & Scope

Contacts Regular contact with employees, line managers and members of the HR team.

Interaction with regional HR colleagues and internal service functions.

Contact with external recruitment, training, payroll and benefits providers as required.

Level of Responsibility

Works under the guidance and supervision of the HR Manager with responsibility increasing as capability develops.

Accountable for completing assigned activities accurately, confidentially and within agreed timescales.

Expected to recognise the limits of authority and expedite sensitive, complex, or high-risk matters promptly.

Decision-Making Authority

Makes routine administrative decisions within agreed processes and guidance.

Does not provide independent HR advice or make decisions on employee relations matters.

Refers exceptions, policy interpretation and sensitive issues to the appropriate HR team member.

Working Environment

Office-based with hybrid flexibility where appropriate and in line with business requirements.

Occasional flexibility may be required to support deadlines, meetings and/or employee activities.

Limited travel to other business locations or training venues may be required.
