Our client, a freight forwarder, is looking for an Import Clerk to join their office in Barking.

Job Purpose:

As an Import Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing the inbound shipment process, ensuring timely customs clearance, managing vendor relations, overseeing compliance with international shipping regulations, and liaising with customers for the final delivery of cargo. You will also handle invoicing and billing for services rendered, playing a crucial role in ensuring smooth and efficient import operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the import process for shipments, ensuring timely and efficient handling.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, carriers, and customs brokers to ensure proper clearance and delivery.
  • Prepare and review import documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and certificates of origin.
  • Ensure compliance with all customs regulations and international trade laws.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of customs requirements and tariff codes.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to arrange the final delivery of cargo and resolve any issues related to shipment.
  • Manage the invoicing process, including preparing and sending invoices to customers, tracking payments, and handling any billing-related inquiries.
  • Track shipments and ensure they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Liaise with finance and accounting teams regarding invoicing and payment processes.
  • Handle the preparation and submission of customs declarations and other necessary documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., customer service, warehouse, transport) to ensure smooth coordination of import activities.
  • Provide status updates to customers and internal teams regarding cargo movements and delivery timelines.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in freight forwarding, logistics, or import/export operations (preferably 2+ years).
  • Strong knowledge of import/export documentation and customs procedures.
  • Proficiency in shipping software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
