Role
We are recruiting a Test Rod & Rope Engineer responsible for building and maintaining new and existing Core Telecommunications Access Networks, installing rope/subduct, and checking Customer Lead‑ins.
Key Responsibilities
- Enter and work cable chambers, footway & carriageway boxes.
- Use safety equipment and procedures, ensuring H&S/Highways guidelines for safe roadside/pathway working are always followed.
- Conduct Test Rodding and Roping of underground ducts, ensuring traffic management requirements are met.
- Verify pole bends and produce Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) upon task completion.
- Interpret Microsoft Word/Excel/PDF‑based job packs and BT duct diagrams.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions with all necessary equipment and vehicles supplied by the company.
- Adhere to completion deadlines, including tasks in confined spaces to meet operational requirements.
- Locate blockages and establish a clear route.
- Test Lead‑ins to properties.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven track record in Test Rod & Roping/cabling UG ducts/pole bends within the Openreach network.
- Solid experience working on the Openreach PIA network (or Portal).
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and hazard identifications with strong Health & Safety focus.
- Driven to achieve weekly targets with focus on time‑keeping performance.
- Commitment to teamwork, championing toob values and business objectives.
- Adaptable to any works permitted within the UG network.
- Critical thinking, problem‑solving and independent initiative.
- Excellent communication skills and a customer‑centric approach.
- Full UK manual driving licence with a clean record (held for a minimum of 12 months with no more than 6 penalty points).
- For insurance purposes, we supply company vehicles to those aged 25 and over.
- Right to work in the UK with no restrictions.
- Completion of assigned jobs within agreed SLA.
- Identify and, where possible, mitigate blockages.
