Job Description:
Tony Gee and Partners is currently recruiting for a Highways Associate in the St Albans office.
The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in the technical delivery of Tony Gee’s highways projects and the enhancement of highway engineering capabilities at our St Albans office. This individual will collaborate closely with directors and highway specialists in St Albans and other UK offices to deliver a diverse range of highway sector projects, including major UK trunk road improvements, new bypass and link road schemes, access roads to developments, and realignments associated with bridge replacements.
The successful candidate will be a Chartered Engineer with a relevant engineering institution and possess extensive experience in highways technical design delivery.
In addition to strong technical skills, including a thorough understanding of the UK’s DMRB and MCHW, the candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. They will be client-facing with strong team leadership skills and must be committed to developing the technical skills of junior staff within the group
Main Duties
The role requires you to act as a highways discipline technical lead taking responsibility for the punctual delivery of projects to high quality standards in addition to achieving financial targets; you should therefore possess effective managerial experience and suitable technical expertise.
Key tasks include but are not limited to:
Job Responsibilities
- Technical design and delivery of multiple concurrent projects.
- Undertaking the role of Highways Discipline Manager or Highways Discipline Director
- The day-to-day management, direction and training of the staff whilst undertaking your project work
- Acting as a role model for others in the Company
- Developing the relationship between the company and new and existing clients and identify potential work
- Contributing to / or preparing fee budgets, proposals and resource requirements for projects under your control
- Co-ordinating with other engineers both in the regional offices and between technical groups
- Managing the preparation of calculations, drawings and other documents and ensuring these are controlled during the execution of projects under your control
- Managing and liaising with clients on proposals and project work
- Specifying and/or managing site examination and investigation works in a safe and effective manner
- Identifying and managing risks for the work under your control to agreed acceptable levels.
Required Experience
- In-depth knowledge of DMRB/MCHW and detailed design experience on road schemes above £5M construction value.
- Detailed technical skills across the key elements of highways design.
- Liaison with direct stakeholders.
- Professional Qualifications: CEng + MICE and/or MIHT or near-chartered engineer with previous experience
- Experience in the following softwares MicroStation, Microsoft Project, Civils 3D, MX, Infraworks, Windes/Microdrainage, PDS Sign/Line, Arcady, Lighting Reality
- Experience of Design and Build schemes, including supporting schemes through Construction
- Understanding of related highway disciplines preferred, including inter-alia, structures, earthworks, ITS, landscaping, road safety, traffic analysis
- Knowledge of the BIM protocols in BS1192
