Accountant Permanent Located in central Brighton Hybrid working - 3 days in the office £50,000 - £65,000 per annum plus other benefits. Tony Alan Recruitment currently has an exciting job opportunity for an Accountant to join a growing SME business based in the Central Brighton (BN1) area on a permanent basis. While the role sits within practice, it would equally suit a strong industry accountant who enjoys variety, systems work, and hands-on involvement across the full accounting cycle. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in unstructured environments, enjoys problem-solving, and takes ownership of improving systems, controls, and financial information for multiple businesses.
Your duties will include:
- Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts
- Produce P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reports
- Complete complex balance sheet and control account reconciliations
- Provide clear financial insights and commentary to support decision-making
- Take responsibility for messy, incomplete, or unstructured accounting records and turn them into clean, reliable financial data
- Design, improve, and document accounting systems, processes, and control procedures
- Lead or support accounting software implementations and migrations (e.g. Sage or QuickBooks to Xero)
- Review and improve client or internal finance processes
- Assist with the preparation of year-end statutory accounts for limited companies and other entities
- Liaise with clients to resolve year-end queries and adjustments
- Build strong, professional working relationships
- Communicate financial information clearly to non-finance audiences
- Proactively identify issues and recommend practical solutions
Key requirements:
- 5 years’ experience in an accounting role (practice or industry)
- Qualified in ACA / CIMA / ACCA
- Comfortable working with unstructured, messy, or incomplete data
- Strong reconciliation skills and attention to detail
- Experience with cloud accounting software, ideally Xero
