Tone Veterinary Centre is looking for a full‑time Patient Care Assistant who will also perform at least 50% of reception duties. The role is based across two surgeries in Taunton – Norton Fitzwarren and Blackbrook – and requires a full driving licence to move between the sites. The position requires flexibility: shifts begin early at 8 am or finish at 7 pm, and Saturday mornings are part of the rota with time‑back as lieu. Training is provided in‑house; there may be future opportunities to pursue veterinary nurse training.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Caring and monitoring patients in the hospital environment.
  • Maintaining environmental and patient hygiene following standard operating procedures.
  • Holding and restraining patients (training given).
  • Using basic laboratory skills (training given).
  • Ensuring practice premises and equipment are kept tidy and maintained; preparing equipment for procedures.
  • Giving patient updates to clients and making follow‑up appointments.
  • Providing a great first impression of the practice by meeting and greeting clients.
  • Booking and amending appointments.
  • Carrying out opening and closing procedures.
  • Answering clients’ queries by telephone, email, and in person.
  • Handling payments.
  • Other reception/admin duties.
  • Working flexibly as part of the nursing and reception team.
