If so, this is an exciting opportunity to join Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council as our Information Governance Manager.
We are looking for a knowledgeable and proactive Information Governance Manager to lead and develop the Council's approach to data protection, records management, information rights and compliance. You will promote a strong culture of good information governance across the organisation, ensuring we meet our statutory responsibilities and follow best practice in all areas of data handling. Reporting to the Head of Administrative & Property Services, you will act as the Council's subject matter expert and play a key role in shaping policies, advising services, and managing critical information governance processes.
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing expert advice on Data Protection (DPA), Freedom of Information (FOI), Environmental Information Regulations (EIR), information security, and records management.
- Developing, reviewing, and implementing Council-wide information governance policies, procedures and strategies.
- Managing the coordination and timely handling of FOI, EIR and data protection requests.
- Identifying and applying relevant exemptions and ensuring compliance with statutory deadlines.
- Monitoring performance, reporting compliance, and promoting continuous improvement across services.
- Supporting services with Data Protection Impact Assessments and maintaining Records of Processing Activity.
- Overseeing the investigation and resolution of data breaches, complaints and regulatory enquiries (including from the ICO).
- Leading on information governance training and awareness for officers and Members.
- Maintaining and improving relevant intranet, website and transparency information.
- Supporting corporate projects, inter-agency groups, and the Council's Emergency Planning operations where required.
This is a politically restricted post under the Local Government and Housing Act (as amended) 1989.
