This is a hands-on role suited to someone with a strong eye for form and proportion, a solid technical understanding of materials, and an appreciation for fabrication techniques—particularly in metal. The right candidate will be a proactive problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced, design-led environment and is eager to collaborate closely with both designers and makers.
Key responsibilities
- Work with the sales team to produce pre-sales drawings and Design for Approval (DFA) documentation for client approval and internal reference.
- Generate production-ready component drawings for laser cutting, water jet cutting, and other fabrication processes.
- Work closely with senior designers and production teams to refine concepts and ensure designs are manufacturable and efficient to produce.
- Assist in the design and development of high-end furniture pieces, from initial concept through to final product.
- Create detailed technical drawings, 3D models, and presentation renderings using industry-standard software such as Rhino, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360.
- Prepare material specifications, assembly instructions, and other production documentation.
- Research emerging design trends, materials, metal finishes, and fabrication techniques to support innovation and excellence in design.
- Participate in prototype development, workshop visits, and product reviews to support the design-to-production process.
Qualifications & Skills
- Degree in Furniture Design, Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience (internships or freelance work accepted), preferably within the furniture or creative arts industry.
- Strong proficiency in 2D and 3D design software, such as Rhino, Fusion 360, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience with 3D visualization software (KeyShot, V-Ray, etc.) is a requirement.
- Familiarity with metal fabrication techniques (e.g., welding, casting, CNC machining, finishing) is a strong advantage.
- Strong hand sketching, visualization, and communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with a high level of craftsmanship and design sensitivity.
- A proactive, enthusiastic, and collaborative mindset with a desire to learn and grow within a design-focused team.
