Tom Cox Gallery is seeking an experienced Gallery Manager to join its team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the gallery. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in gallery management, excellent organisational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. An understanding of contemporary art and interest in developing art markets is appreciated.

Days at our Crystal Palace gallery from Thursday to Saturday 10am-5pm with additional hours for private views and art fairs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage with visitors and potential buyers, providing excellent customer service and personalised art consultations.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the gallery’s artists, artworks, and exhibitions to actively promote and sell artworks in line with sales targets.
  • Actively grow and accurately maintain the gallery CRM system, sales records, and mailing list.
  • Physical curation and hanging of exhibitions within the gallery space as well as at art fairs (Affordable Art Fair Battersea & Hampstead).
  • Oversee the management of the artists including artist contracts, studio visits as required, exhibition and fair coordination, and pricing reviews.
  • Work alongside the directors and external social media consultant to create content for social channels, uploading posts/stories as required.
  • Involvement in the social media strategy including the launch programme for the gallery events.
  • Represent the gallery at art-related events, fostering connections within the art community and promoting the gallery's artists and initiatives.
  • Work closely with artists to co-ordinate artwork deliveries, collaborative social posts, available works lists and images, commissions etc.
  • Oversee annual Open Call exhibition– manage the Open Call process from applications through to artwork delivery and exhibition planning.
Gallery Administration
  • Ongoing maintenance of the website via Squarespace, including uploading items to the shop and uploading events and links/imagery/videos to Eventbrite.
  • Oversee the logistics of artworks from point of sale to packaging, couriers, and deliveries.
  • Ensuring all artworks are photographed and catalogued online, including post-production editing and adding copy for online shop.
  • Assisting with the administration within the gallery such as stretching and priming canvases, purchasing art materials, ordering frames and mouldings, painting frames and framing prints.
  • Oversee the regular deep-cleaning team and ensure waste and general cleaning is managed on a day-to-day basis.
  • Manage the gallery email account, ensuring emails are responded to promptly and with the highest level of customer service.
  • Limited edition prints tracking ensuring prints are framed and editions are recorded as required.
  • Create email campaigns that inform, engage, and convert the audience for exhibitions, open calls, and events.
  • Create marketing materials for events such as press releases, sponsorship packs, booklets, window graphics, and other collateral that supports events.
  • Track and monitor audience growth metrics using tools like Metricool and Squarespace to measure engagement and present back to owner.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in gallery management or a similar role within the art industry.
  • Experienced user of image editing software such as Photoshop/Affinity.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as required for gallery events and exhibitions.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure within a commercial gallery context.
  • Excellent communication, with the ability to interact effectively with staff members, consultants, and customers.
  • Organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Fluent in English, other languages are an advantage.
  • High level attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with and interested in the developing art market.
  • Driving licence an advantage but not essential.
