Job Summary

Led by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and in partnership with YMCA Downslink and Southdown, Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service provides a community‑based range of evidence‑based therapeutic and clinical interventions to support children, young people and adults with mild to moderate mental health needs. Our service is based in the community and located primarily within SPFT venues and GP Practices. We receive referrals from a number of routes including self‑referrals and by General Practitioners, working closely with community and secondary‑care mental health services.

We are recruiting a Qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner to join our NHS Talking Therapies Service.

Main duties of the job

The PWP role involves offering CBT‑informed guided self‑help, working with clients via telephone, using online platforms (including silvercloud) and delivering psychoeducational courses.

Requirements

To apply for this role you will need a postgraduate certificate in Low Intensity Psychological Therapies, experience delivering PWP interventions within an NHS TT service, excellent team skills and proven ability to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality primary care NHS TT services to adults with mild to moderate mental health problems using CBT‑based self‑management interventions for clients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression.
  • Work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of team policies and procedure.
  • Deliver NHS TT services in accordance with NICE guidelines, within agreed activity levels and model, meeting required key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Provide advice and consultation on clients’ care to other clinicians and non‑professional carers.
  • Promote wellbeing and social inclusion.
  • Work flexibly and in accordance with service demands.
  • Work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary, and commit to equal opportunities.
  • Work to the agreed number of clinical contacts per week set by the Team Lead.

Scope & Authority

  • Provide a high‑quality low‑intensity psychological therapy service to individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams as appropriate, in line with best, evidence‑based practice and trust care pathways including group therapy.
  • Communicate and liaise with all other professionals involved in the individual client’s treatment and ongoing mental health care.
  • Provide regular information to clients’ GP and/or referrer about the treatment process and outcome, initial and ongoing risk assessments, making appropriate disclosure and onward referrals where necessary.
  • Improve wellbeing through interventions and encouraging access to other agencies that provide wellbeing initiatives and promote social inclusion.
  • Make decisions regarding suitability for therapy and clinical pathways with particular regard to risk and onward referrals to other specialist services as required.
  • Formulate and implement treatment plans with clients, usually within an agreed brief structured time frame and contracted number of sessions by offering NICE‑compliant one‑to‑one interventions, NICE‑compliant group interventions and online therapy.
  • Exercise sound theoretical knowledge of evidence‑based psychological intervention and employ a range of short‑term interventions to meet the needs of the referred client.
  • Manage own clinical caseload within guidelines provided by the team lead and relevant professional guidelines and ethical frameworks (PWP Code of Practice).
  • Provide a level of activity in accordance with service level agreements and as agreed by team lead.
  • Contribute to in‑service training events through presentations, with information relating to good working practice, special projects and procedural changes.

Person Specification – Essential

Qualifications

  • Qualification from PWP Training Course (Post Graduate Certificate or Level 3 undergraduate course) or equivalent (e.g. experienced and qualified Graduate Mental Health Worker with relevant primary care experience and competences).
  • Professional registration.

Knowledge/Experience

  • Evidence of working with people who have experienced a mental health problem.
  • Demonstrates high standards in written communication.
  • Able to write clear reports and letters.
  • Experience of working in Primary Care Services.
