Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) is seeking an experienced Senior Wordings Underwriter to join our Customer Oversight team in London. This key senior technical role supports underwriting performance by ensuring policy wordings and contractual documentation are drafted, reviewed and negotiated to the highest standard. Reporting to the Senior Wordings Lead, you'll act as a trusted technical partner to underwriters, brokers and claims teams, ensuring policy documentation accurately reflects the intended cover, aligns with TMK's risk appetite and delivers clear, fair and compliant outcomes for customers.
Responsibilities
- Review, negotiate and agree policy wordings and contractual documentation across TMK's core business lines, ensuring clarity, precision and consistency.
- Draft and amend policy wordings, clauses, summaries of cover and supporting documentation in line with legal, regulatory, reinsurance and internal governance requirements.
- Ensure documentation does not unintentionally broaden cover or expose TMK to unintended risk.
- Work closely with underwriting teams, brokers and third parties to agree and implement new or amended wordings.
- Act as a specialist referral point and coach, providing expert advice, guidance and constructive challenge on wording-related matters.
- Proactively identify contractual, wording or market issues and deliver practical, commercially appropriate solutions.
- Maintain ownership and momentum of complex wording negotiations through to final agreement.
- Support underwriting and claims teams on technical wording issues to enable effective decision‐making and claims outcomes.
- Contribute to product development, market research and analysis of emerging trends and market practices.
- Ensure compliance with Lloyd's requirements, market best practice and TMK's underwriting standards and controls.
- Support regulatory activities, including reviews and responses, with a focus on fair customer outcomes.
- Represent TMK at relevant market committees, forums and industry working groups where required.
- Contribute to training, knowledge sharing and the continuous development of wording capability across the business.
Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of insurance contracts, policy wordings and customer communications.
- Strong understanding of London Market practice, including reinsurance wordings.
- Experience with regulatory and contractual considerations across multi‐jurisdictional business, including U.S. surplus lines and non‐admitted risks.
- Confidence engaging with Lloyd's and regulators.
- Solid understanding of underwriting and claims operations.
- Excellent drafting skills and a high standard of written English.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to spot and resolve issues effectively.
- Strong commercial judgement, balancing regulatory compliance with business objectives.
- Clear, confident communicator, able to influence, challenge constructively and build consensus at all levels.
