Job Purpose
This is an excellent opportunity for an underwriting assistant, with a focus on Power Generation, to join our Power team. Power is a specialised line of business and the London Power Underwriting Market attracts risks globally from large global power generation utility companies, state owned power generation groups, private equity financed groups and independent power plants. Power Generation includes plants such as combined cycle, hydro and conventional steam. The Power Generation industry is central to the global energy transition toward a carbon-neutral future, and our underwriting team engages in risk assessment of cutting-edge technology and evolving industry dynamics. Based in London, you will support underwriters in development and retention of our business to build a profitable portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the Underwriting Team in the London Office.
- Liaising with the processing team in Bridgend.
- Ensuring adequate filing and documentation of Power Risks.
- Accurate data entry, data management and processing.
- Resolving accounts queries.
- Report preparation.
- Risk reviews and pre-underwriting.
- Collaborating with the team, including our expert Power Engineer, to develop knowledge of the Power Industry and risk.
Key Tasks
- Data entry in coordination with the Power back office team in Bridgend to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Production of documentation and reports to aid internal reporting and Power Portfolio management.
- Check documentation including submissions, slips and wordings.
- Manage the Underwriting Client Files.
- Support Underwriters in completion and recording of the Underwriting process, including notes and population of tools.
- Support Underwriters with day-to-day business including endorsements and changes to ongoing business.
- Produce documentation and use tools to aid in Underwriting Risk reviews.
Performance Objectives
- Develop in-depth knowledge of the many Underwriting tools and processes.
- Complete all required administrative tasks for the team and ensure underwriting files are complete and properly recorded in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate the required level of technical knowledge and skill.
- Work with the Underwriting team, the Bridgend team and other stakeholders, developing relationships and ensuring good coordination and understanding, taking initiative to develop improvements to current systems and tools.
- Collaborate with the Power Team (Underwriters, Power Engineer, and Claims expert) and your own research to broaden knowledge of Power Generation globally.
- Gain an understanding of TMHCC’s underwriting philosophy and cultural values.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Demonstrable interest in Power Generation.
- Educated to at least A level or equivalent with good Maths and English GCSE grades.
- Conscientious and hardworking.
- A high level of IT literacy, including Word and Excel.
- Excellent organization and prioritisation skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Works well in a team.
- Good attention to detail.
Desirable
- Ideally will start study towards Cert CII qualification.
