We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Product Owner to join our dynamic Payments team at Token.io. As Product Owner, you will play a key role in shaping, developing, delivering, and documenting our core Pay by Bank products and capabilities. This is a high-impact role with direct influence over products that sit at the heart of Token.io’s Account-to-Account (A2A) payments offering. The role combines traditional product ownership responsibilities with technical writing and developer experience oversight, ensuring our products are intuitive, scalable, and supported by high-quality documentation that enables customers, partners, and developers to integrate with confidence.

Close collaboration with Engineering will be essential, with the Product Owner working as a key partner to translate product vision into clear technical requirements, support effective delivery, and ensure alignment on priorities throughout the development lifecycle.

Here’s what you get to do:

  • Own and prioritise the product backlog for Payments, ensuring solutions are reliable, scalable, and secure.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to design and deliver high-quality API-driven solutions.
  • Own sprint planning, refinement, and retrospectives, driving efficient and predictable delivery.
  • Collaborate with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders to gather requirements and shape product direction.
  • Use tools such as Postman to explore, test, and validate APIs as part of product development.
  • Contribute to improving the overall developer experience across our payments platform.
  • Develop a strong understanding of how our SaaS platform integrates with and supports payment capabilities.
  • Create and maintain clear, high-quality developer documentation, including API references and integration guides.

What we are looking for:

  • Smart, entrepreneurial professional who loves technology and lives to innovate and deliver disruptive technologies into the market.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and accurate documentation for developers and technical users.
  • Strong writing skills with an emphasis on technical clarity, consistency, and user-focused content.
  • Truly customer‑centered thinking with a passion to deliver the best possible service standards and documentation to customers.
  • Have an ambition to innovate in the payments space and a proven track‑record of bringing well‑documented products to market.
  • Proactive problem solver with an ability to think on your feet and accountable for the results.
  • Curious with a passion for understanding our market, product, and technology, and explaining it clearly to others.
  • Excellent presentation skills and the proven ability to influence and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to change priorities quickly and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done; thrives in a high‑growth environment.
  • Ability to foster strong team alignment and collaboration by creating harmony between Product and Engineering, while actively serving as a trusted voice for Engineering to ensure technical perspectives, constraints, and opportunities are fully represented in product decisions.

Previous experience must haves:

  • Experience as a Product Owner (or similar), owning backlogs and working closely with engineering teams in an Agile environment.
  • Strong technical background, with hands‑on experience working with APIs (design, testing, and integration).
  • Relevant experience in payments, with a solid understanding of payment methods, schemes, and flows.
  • Experience creating or contributing to developer‑facing documentation, including API references and integration guides.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Postman, OpenAPI / Swagger, or similar API and documentation tooling.
  • Proficient in using Jira to manage product backlogs, prioritise work items, define user stories and acceptance criteria, and track delivery progress across Agile teams.
  • Familiarity with customer‑facing web application products and an understanding of user‑centric product design.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across cross‑functional teams (engineering, design, commercial).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with a data‑driven approach to decision‑making.

It’s also good if you have:

  • Experience working with Account to Account (A2A) payments systems across the UK and EU.
  • Familiarity with Open Banking standards and frameworks, including PSD2 regulations and APIs.
  • Understanding of Agile delivery practices within regulated financial services environments.
  • Knowledge of markup languages (HTML, Markdown) and technical content management systems such as Redocly.
