Tokamak Energy is pioneering the development of commercial fusion energy and high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet systems. We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Electrical Technician to support the assembly, installation, testing, and maintenance of complex electrical systems used in our fusion energy experiments and prototype devices. In this role, you will work alongside engineers and scientists to bring cutting‑edge technology to life. You’ll be hands‑on with power systems, control panels, instrumentation, wiring, and more, ensuring our equipment is built and maintained to the highest standards of quality and safety.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out electrical LV work in accordance with the companies Electrical Safety Policy (LV).
- Assist in control panel layout, design, installation and commissioning.
- Assemble and install control systems and panels.
- Perform maintenance tasks on control systems, panels, and power supply systems.
- Assist with conducting fault finding and troubleshooting on control systems, panels, and power supply systems to identify and rectify electrical issues.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot data networks, ensuring efficient data transmission and connectivity in the commercial and industrial settings.
- Install data network cabling and equipment.
- Work on mains powered distribution boards, including installation, maintenance and upgrading.
- Install, modify and maintain mains powered final circuits.
- Install cable containment, including cable trays, conduits, and trunking systems.
- Carry out testing and commissioning of electrical equipment and mains distribution infrastructure.
- Attend to emergency electrical repairs and breakdowns.
- Collaborate with other team members and contractors on large‑scale electrical projects, ensuring effective coordination and completion of tasks.
- A strong focus on teamwork in a dynamic environment with the ability to work alongside team members and engineers.
- Adhere to all safety requirements and ensure the safe upkeep of your work area.
Essential
- Electrical Apprentice time served or equivalent electrical training programme/experience.
- Experience working with Low Voltage (LV) electrical systems, such as; Mains distribution boards both single phase and three phase and sub main circuits and final distribution circuits experience.
- Strong practical skills in wiring, panel building, and testing.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues independently or as part of a team.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with evolving technical challenges.
- Awareness of electrical safety procedures and standards (e.g., BS 7671 or equivalent).
- Able to read and work from electrical diagrams/schematics.
- A flexible/agile approach to daily tasks.
- Good initiative with ability to solve problems.
- Good communications skills across all levels.
- Acting as a good role model, always representing company values.
- Possess a good understanding of and attitude toward Health & Safety requirements.
- Basic IT skills using Windows based operating system.
