We are looking for an experienced litigation professional to join our in-house Legal Team. We are being very open minded with regard to experience and we will mould the role around you. Ultimately, you will be responsible for proactively managing a high-volume and fast-moving portfolio of litigation matters within a regulated financial services environment.

The role requires an individual who is able to proactively manage (with appropriate supervision based on your experience to date) a high volume and fast moving portfolio of customer legal claims, the majority of which arise from claims management companies, and security enforcement. The role requires someone who has experience of volume litigation and who is pragmatic, commercially minded and solutions focused.

In addition to managing their own matters, the successful candidate will support the supervision, development and quality assurance of junior team members, helping to ensure consistency, efficiency and high standards across the team. The role will involve regular monitoring, interpretation and presentation of MI, data trends and insights, using these to identify trends to inform decision making. This role requires collaboration with other stakeholders across the business, including Complaints, Risk, Compliance, Recoveries and Operations and senior stakeholders.

It would suit an ambitious Senior Paralegal, Legal Executive or Newly Qualified Solicitor with a strong background in financial services volume litigation who is seeking to broaden their litigation skills within an established in-house legal team.

Typical duties include:

  • Managing a portfolio of litigation matters from pre-action stage through to final resolution.
  • Progression of day-to-day litigation strategy, progression and outcomes across allocated matters.
  • Preparing pleadings, witness statements, applications, disclosure and other court documents.
  • Monitoring court deadlines and ensuring compliance with procedural requirements.
  • Preparing concise case summaries, risk assessments and recommendations.
  • Supporting settlement discussions and dispute resolution strategies.
  • Assisting with possession claims and enforcement of security.
  • Working closely with internal business stakeholders.
  • Producing and maintaining litigation management information, reporting and trend analysis.
  • Supporting the supervision, development and quality assurance of junior colleagues.
  • Contributing to process improvement initiatives and operational efficiencies.
  • Supporting the implementation and use of legal technology and AI-enabled tools within the litigation function.

Qualifications

If you have a good combination of the following skills, we would encourage you to apply:

  • Good experience managing litigation matters within a financial services environment.
  • Experience personally handling and progressing litigation files, including responsibility for strategy, case management and outcomes.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules.
  • Experience managing a substantial caseload of litigated matters.
  • Strong drafting skills and experience preparing court documents and litigation correspondence.
  • Ability to analyse legal, commercial and operational risks and provide practical recommendations.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently whilst contributing effectively as part of a wider team.
  • Background in process improvement or optimisation within legal workflow.
  • Previous in-house experience.
  • Experience of mortgage litigation, possession proceedings or recoveries litigation.
