Senior Assistant Psychologist in London

To support and enhance the professional psychological care of users of the service, providing psychological assessments and interventions within the scope appropriate to the level of experience and training, and to undertake related tasks to enhance assessment, intervention and evaluation within the care group.

To work independently, with work and goals agreed and reviewed through regular supervision by a qualified HCPC registered Psychologist.

Practicalities

• 9am-5pm, Mon‑Fri, with some evenings. Flexibility is required between 9am and 8pm during weekdays to ensure the service is responsive to service user and stakeholder needs.
• May be required to travel from your nominal base to different operational sites. Additional travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake projects relating to service development and evaluation.
• Set up databases, spreadsheets and use advanced IT skills in evaluation, audit and research.
• Screen and assess for eligibility for Mental Health Treatment Requirements.
• Support assessment and treatment interventions undertaken by the service.
• Undertake direct and indirect clinical work that is managed and goals agreed and reviewed through regular supervision by a qualified HCPC registered Psychologist.
• Plan, organise and co‑teach psycho‑educational courses and groups with appropriately qualified professional staff.
• Liaise with a range of services (including health, social care and voluntary agencies) relevant to the working area.
• Undertake assessments and interventions (including neuropsychological tests, self‑report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect observations and semi‑structured interviews).
• Assist in the development of psychologically based frameworks of understanding and care.
• Formulate and deliver care plans involving psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems within settings where there may be a hostile atmosphere, challenging behaviour or high levels of expressed emotion.
• Assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups.
• Compile risk histories to inform care plans, risk and crisis plans.
• Work with other team members to improve care practices and the quality of life of clients.
• Attend and contribute to multi‑disciplinary meetings.
• Support the delivery of evidence‑based psychological interventions for clients.
• Carry out other clinical and administrative tasks as appropriate to the post holder’s grade.
• Maintain high quality records and statistics concerning the service.
• Abide by the BPS code of Conduct and Ethics and the Division of Clinical Psychology Professional Practice Guidelines.
• Maintain confidentiality in line with Trust policy and GDPR.
• Participate in clinical and professional audit and quality assurance initiatives.
• Perform other duties of a similar kind appropriate to the grade, as required by the Psychology Manager.
• Participate in the Trust’s performance review and personal development planning process annually.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant Trust, Psychology and Psychological Therapies policies and procedures.
• Report immediately any incidents affecting staff, users or visitors on health service property, as per Trust policies.

Essential Qualifications

• Honours degree (2:1 or above) in Psychology, or equivalent.
• Eligibility for Graduate Basis for Charteredship (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
• Further postgraduate training in a relevant area of professional psychology, health or social care practice, and/or research design and analysis.

Other Requirements

• Enhanced DBS clearance required.
• Must successfully obtain Ministry of Justice (MoJ) Level 2 Vetting.
• The role may be closed early if a sufficient number of suitable applications are received.
