About the role

Every day with us is different, but our mission remains the same: to champion the rights, needs and ambitions of the people we support. We are looking for Positive Behaviour Support Workers (PBS) to work across the City of Manchester local authority area, helping children, young people and families to access education, community activities and a better quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Travel throughout the Manchester local authority area to visit a variety of settings that meet young people’s needs.
  • Provide a caring, safe, secure and accepting environment that meets physical, health, social needs and rights of the young people.
  • Assist with assessments of need and formulation of plans, working in partnership with other agencies.
  • Maximise educational opportunities and achievements for young people by identifying, establishing and supporting educational provision and contributing to educational reviews.
  • Undertake individual work designed to meet young people’s needs as identified within their care plan, enabling them to reach their full potential.
  • Under close supervision, take responsibility for a caseload of families.
  • Support families with Positive Behaviour Support strategies within their home environment.
  • Maintain and encourage open and honest communication with colleagues and families.

What We Expect

  • Minimum age of 22 years at the time of joining the service.
  • Right to work in the UK without additional approval for >20 hours per week throughout the year.
  • Ordinarily resident in the UK for at least 3 years before the start of the apprenticeship (if applicable).
  • Willingness to travel across the City of Manchester; a driver’s licence is preferred and travel will be reimbursed.
  • Strong values and an enthusiastic approach to supporting young people and families.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, with good communication skills.
  • Enhanced DBS check and other safeguarding checks will be undertaken.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Hours: 37.5 per week.
  • Salary: £26,230 per year.
  • Sleep‑in shift pay: £107.60 on average 2 per month (starting spring 2026).
  • Weekend pay: enhanced time and a quarter; expectation to work 1 in 2 weekends.
