Overview
Our children’s service in Romiley, Stockport provides respite to young people with Autism, Learning Difficulties and Complex needs.
The role supports families by offering regular periods of respite and a much-needed break for parents and siblings.
Employment Details
Enhancements: Sleep‑in allowance of £107.60 per shift and time and a quarter paid for weekend hours worked (equivalent to £19.82 per hour)
Responsibilities
- Provide a safe, caring and inclusive environment that meets young people’s physical, emotional, social and cultural needs.
- Promote a positive culture that helps young people maximise life chances and achieve best possible outcomes in line with quality care standards.
- Support the development and review of policies, procedures and practices to ensure compliance with legislation, safeguarding requirements and quality standards.
- Undertake key worker responsibilities, managing complex cases and safeguarding concerns while providing guidance to less experienced staff.
- Maintain strong safeguarding awareness by assessing risks, setting boundaries and reporting concerns appropriately.
- Assess individual needs and contribute to care planning, ensuring the voices of young people, parents and carers are considered.
- Support educational engagement, progress and achievement through planning, advocacy and participation in education reviews.
- Deliver direct care and interventions that meet identified needs, support positive transitions and strengthen important relationships.
- Build and maintain effective partnerships with families, communities and external agencies to improve outcomes.
- Contribute to staff supervision, appraisal and development, promoting continuous professional learning.
- Represent the organisation professionally through communication, meetings and accurate report writing.
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of all children and young people in your care.
Qualifications
- QCF Level 4 in Children, Young People and Families Practitioner or equivalent (mandatory).
- NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (excluding Health and Social Care) or BA (Hons) Social Work with relevant children’s residential practice.
- Significant residential childcare experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Experience working with statutory and voluntary agencies.
- Flexibility to respond to the needs of the unit and young people.
- Good communication, interpersonal, organisational and time‑management skills.
- Current clean driving licence.
