As our Legal Counsel for Employment Law, we are looking for someone to join our People team on a part time basis for 3 days a week. Working closely with HR, People Leaders and senior stakeholders, you will support the business in managing employment-related legal matters, ensuring compliance with UK employment legislation and helping Together maintain a positive, inclusive and high-performing workplace culture. You will act as a trusted adviser, balancing legal risk with commercial objectives while supporting a dynamic and fast-paced business. This role combines strategic legal advisory work with hands-on support for complex employee relations matters, employment tribunals, organisational changes, policy development and leadership training.
As our Legal Counsel, we are looking for someone to:
- Provide expert, commercially focused employment law advice across a broad range of matters including employee relations, performance and absence management, disciplinary and grievance issues, redundancies, restructures, whistleblowing, EDI, flexible working, family leave, and senior-level appointments and exits.
- Manage employment disputes and tribunal claims, working with external counsel where required, developing litigation strategies, and supporting legal documentation and witness preparation.
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation and regulatory requirements by monitoring legal developments and advising on policy and procedural updates.
- Support strategic business initiatives including organisational change, restructures, acquisitions and workforce planning, partnering closely with HR and business leaders.
- Deliver practical employment law training, build trusted relationships with stakeholders across the business, and promote proactive risk management and informed decision-making.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Significant post-qualification experience in employment law gained in private practice and/or an in-house environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and tribunal procedures.
- Experience advising senior stakeholders on complex employee relations matters.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to deliver clear, pragmatic and commercially focused advice.
- Strong stakeholder-management and influencing skills.
Desirable:
- Experience within financial services or a regulated environment.
- Knowledge of data protection issues relating to employment matters.
- Experience supporting organisational change and restructuring projects.
- Exposure to reward, executive compensation and governance matters.
