Job Description

As a Corporate Underwriting Director, you will manage our high performing Corporate Lending Team; responsible for assessing, underwriting and managing multiple large value and complex corporate real estate transactions, some of which will be experiencing challenges around servicing loans, security risks and/or exit risks, and therefore a good level of experience in real estate lending would be essential.

We are looking for someone to:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of corporate real estate underwriters; foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team
  • Oversee the end-to-end underwriting process for large, complex commercial real estate transactions, including investment and development lending, across multiple asset classes
  • Ensure underwriting standards, credit policies, and risk appetite frameworks are applied consistently and effectively
  • Review and challenge financial models, cash flow analysis, borrower financial strength, asset valuations, and covenant structures
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to structure loan packages, including terms, collateral, and covenants that balance customer need and business need; making recommendations on loan terms, interest rates and credit limits based on risk assessment
  • Lead underwriting discussions in credit committee meetings, offering insights and recommendations based on in-depth financial evaluations
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of credit risk frameworks, underwriting policies, and lending strategy
  • Support strategic initiatives, including product development, process improvement, and regulatory change projects

Qualifications

Essential

  • Extensive experience of corporate real estate underwriting, ideally within a bank or specialist lender
  • Strong technical credit skills with proven expertise in structuring and underwriting large, complex real estate transactions
  • Deep understanding of financial statements, credit risk assessment, and loan structuring for corporate clients
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing underwriting teams
  • Excellent decision-making abilities with sound judgment in high-value credit transactions
  • Excellent knowledge of real estate market dynamics, asset classes, and lending structures
  • Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills with the ability to build strong and respectful relationships
