The purpose of the Wellbeing Workshop & Volunteer Worker is to support the provision of the Lewisham Wellbeing Hub wellbeing groups and workshops, including peer support and other service user led initiatives that help improve the health and wellbeing of the people using the service.
Support and work alongside the Peer Support Coordinator and Peer Support Volunteers, and work collaboratively with people who use the service and fellow members of staff. The Wellbeing Workshop & Volunteer Worker will support the delivery of groups and workshops within the service that increases social activity, reduces isolation, facilitates sharing of lived experience, helps to develop coping strategies, develops skills that will help in managing daily tasks, improves connections in the local community and promotes service user leadership opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support with the design and delivery of wellbeing groups and workshops designed to increase attendees’ life skills, coping strategies and expanding their pro-social support network, including the digital and marketing strategy.
- Ensure that the Lewisham Wellbeing Hub groups/workshops embody the organization’s values of service user leadership, lived experience leading the way and promoting principles of recovery to decrease isolation/increase socialising often focused on activities or common interest.
- Support the deputy manager in the hub and peer support coordinator with administrative tasks.
- Ensure that the Lewisham Wellbeing Hub groups and workshops reflect the overall ethos of peer led and participant led focus.
- Support the Lewisham Wellbeing Hub with the recruitment, induction, support and supervision of a small team of peer support volunteers to support the design and delivery of workshops/groups.
- Ensure that Volunteers stay safe and that all aspects of Health and Safety are considered.
- Lead and support the development of the digital presence and marketing of the Hub to ensure the hub’s service delivery is well advertised to engage the people in the community in most need.
- Contribute to the development and promotion of the Lewisham Wellbeing Hub by attending relevant forums or events in the local Borough.
- Ensure that the wellbeing groups and workshops are delivered safely and risk assessed in advance.
- Work with the wider team to ensure there are robust ways to monitor outputs and outcomes of workshops and groups.
- Promote people’s equality, diversity and rights.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise:
Essential:
- Experience of developing, promoting and facilitating meetings and groups.
- Passionate about and committed to the empowerment of people who are experiencing mental distress.
- Understanding of factors around equal opportunities, marginalization and social exclusion.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to deal tactfully and sensitively with a range of people.
- Experience developing and promoting through digital and marketing materials.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact and diplomacy.
- Experience of engaging adults with complex needs in the community.
- Experience of developing risk and crisis plans, as well as safeguarding people.
- Good computer literacy skills, including the ability to use Windows office suite & Customer Management Databases.
Desirable:
- Practical experience of recruiting, inducting, training and managing volunteers.
- Good understanding of service user leadership volunteering in a service/project environment.
