Volunteer Befriender Companion For Activities and Chats
Volunteer role providing companionship, emotional support and social engagement to individuals living with mental health diagnoses. The role includes regular friendly interactions, meaningful conversations and participation in activities to reduce isolation, promote wellbeing and support individuals to feel valued and connected.
Typical hours: 1-3 hours per week, flexible depending on availability and service needs.
Location: Kingsmead Cluster (onsite). Reporting to: Nicola Moore. Employment type: Volunteer.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a trustworthy, respectful and non-judgemental relationship with the individual you are paired with.
- Offer regular contact (face-to-face, phone or online) in line with agreed schedules.
- Provide a listening ear and encourage open, supportive conversations.
- Support individuals to take part in enjoyable and meaningful activities such as walks, light exercise, creative or hobby-based activities (e.g. arts, crafts, games) or community-based outings, respecting their pace, preferences and energy levels.
- Engage in friendly chats that promote confidence, wellbeing and discussion of positive coping strategies.
- Encourage participation in community resources, groups or services where appropriate and help individuals build confidence in social situations.
- Follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times, maintain professional boundaries and report any concerns about wellbeing or safety to the designated supervisor.
- Provide brief feedback or updates after sessions where required, maintain confidentiality in line with organisational policies and attend supervision or check-ins with the volunteer coordinator.

Requirements
Successful candidates will require an enhanced DBS check.
