Test Engineer About the Role We are looking for a Test Engineer to join our Development Test Centre at Tods Technology. In this role, you will be responsible for undertaking testing activities across our product lines and development projects, ensuring products meet customer requirements, internal specifications, and the highest quality standards. You will work with a range of commercial and bespoke testing equipment, maintaining test facilities, calibration records, and critical spare stock to support ongoing operations. The role may also include carrying out other engineering support activities as directed by your line manager. This position is offered on a 37-hour flexible working week, Monday to Thursday.
What You Will Be Doing
Conduct thorough testing on development projects and production product lines to assess fit, form, function, and compliance with specifications. Operate a variety of commercial and bespoke test rigs and facilities within the Development Test Centre. Develop and maintain test schedules, test matrices, and test plans. Prepare risk assessments and method statements for test programmes. Execute test cases and analyse results to identify issues and opportunities for improvement.
Evaluate product performance against customer and internal requirements. Create and maintain logs documenting testing phases, results, and defects. Maintain testing equipment, calibration records, and maintenance schedules. Collaborate with engineering and development teams to support effective testing strategies. Report findings and assist development teams with troubleshooting and issue resolution. Support product quality throughout the design, development, and production lifecycle.
Receive training and operate Tods' specialist acoustic testing facilities. Additional Responsibilities Provide support and mentoring to junior engineers and apprentices. Monitor and maintain stock levels of critical test equipment spares. Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure quality standards are achieved. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the testing and development environment. Undertake additional engineering and support tasks as requested by your line manager.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have: Previous experience as a Test Engineer or in a similar testing and quality-focused engineering role. The ability to create and manage test plans, test schedules, and test matrices. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
Experience interpreting technical specifications and evaluating product performance. The ability to work collaboratively with engineering, development, and production teams. Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Experience with commercial, structural, or rheological testing equipment would be advantageous. A BEng/BSc in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Electronics, or a related discipline is preferred. All candidates must be eligible to obtain security clearance and therefore must have been resident in the UK for a minimum of five years.
