Todmorden High School invites an experienced professional to join the student learning and progress team as a Learning Manager. The role focuses on supporting young people and their families to create a positive educational experience, re‑engage challenging students, and foster academic progress and personal development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead pastoral care, academic progress, and overall wellbeing for a designated year group.
- Monitor attendance, behaviour and attainment, intervening to remove barriers to success.
- Act as a liaison officer to families, providing support for hard‑to‑reach students and ensuring parental responsibilities are understood.
- Coordinate year‑group initiatives, promote school values, and safeguard students.
- Report regularly to the Senior Leadership Team on attendance, behaviour, and progress, supporting the School Development Plan.
- Maintain accurate student records in line with Data Protection legislation and school policy.
- Use IT systems to produce reports for SLT, Governors, and external bodies.
- Collaborate with support agencies, child protection teams, and community organisations to remove learning barriers.
- Provide cover for school detentions and attend key meetings such as progress evenings and open evenings.
Essential Criteria
- 5 GCSEs A*-C (or equivalent) including English and Maths.
- Experience dealing with a wide range of stakeholders in a busy environment.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills, including handling complex numerical data.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel and Word.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Ability to work constructively under own initiative and as part of a team, remaining calm and efficient under pressure.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working with students or young people in a school or community setting.
- Safeguarding training and awareness.
- Two years recent experience of complex administration.
- Experience handling confidential information and sensitive matters.
- Working knowledge of Arbor/ClassCharts.
- De‑escalation strategies.
- Flexibility to work extended hours if required.
