Our client, a well-established, hugely successful and growing manufacturing company based in Thetford, are currently seeking a Junior Design Engineer to join their team. This is a full time permanent role based in Thetford.
About the role:
Responsible for carrying out all phases of assigned projects covering a wide and varied range of disciplines including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems. This will involve constructing 3D CAD models, technical drawings, engineering administration, engineering calculations and report preparation. You will also be required to manage all aspects of a design project’s full life cycle from conception to finished production product and work closely with other members of the team as well as other departments. The varied nature of ever-changing projects is sure to keep you interested & challenged on a daily basis.
Key Skills and Qualities
- Mechanical Engineering degree/HNC
- Experience with fabrication, welding, sheet metal is desirable
- Experience with 3D design software.
- Knowledge of different manufacturing techniques.
- Sound general computer skills utilising Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Strong personal motivation.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop cost effective solutions on a project by project basis.
- Perform engineering calculations and cost estimates to prove design concepts.
- Optimize designs to suit the manufacturing processes available, selecting and implementing new techniques when necessary.
- Carry out cost reduction exercises through redesigning components and/or sub-assemblies to reduce component cost or manufacture time.
- Integrate combinations of our existing product range together with proprietary sub-systems to produce complete vehicles.
- Create CAD models and all necessary engineering drawings.
- Produce bills of materials for sub-assemblies and complete vehicles and general administration.
- Produce hydraulic and electrical diagrams.
- Produce and maintain all necessary project documentation.
- Carry out physical testing where necessary to prove design concepts.
- Creation of additional technical documentation such as technical manuals.
- Creating 2D sales drawings, layout plans and body drawings.
