Food Science Technician
Our prestigious Norwich based client, (part of a cluster of internationally renowned research organisations), are currently recruiting for Food Science Technician to join their team.

This is a full time position working 37 hours per week on a temporary basis for approximately 3 months in Norwich.

Main Activities & Responsibilities Food processing, production and quality activities as follows: Assist with tomato processing activities, including washing, preparation, slicing and freeze-drying of tomatoes for research purposes.

Assist in the preparation, manufacture and packaging of tomato soup to standardised recipes and study specifications.

Support quality assurance activities, including accurate weighing, batch documentation, labelling, stock control and traceability of food materials.

Assist with the operation, cleaning and routine maintenance of food processing equipment, including freeze dryers, mixers and kitchen equipment.

Assist with food storage, inventory management and handling of food ingredients in accordance with food safety and hygiene standards.

Maintain accurate records of food production, processing and quality assurance activities.

Assist in preparing food samples for nutritional, microbiological and other analytical testing by internal and external laboratories.

Maintain High Food Hygiene and Safety as follows: Support the organisation and housekeeping of food preparation and processing facilities, ensuring a clean, safe and efficient working environment.

Liaise with members of the Human Studies Support Team and research staff to assist in soup packaging for distribution to participants As agreed with line manager, any other duties commensurate with the nature of the role
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Five GCSEs grades A*-C (including English and science), or equivalent Hold or be willing to obtain a level 2 food certificate Previous experience in working with food processing equipment Recent experience in food preparation or food administration Previous experience of working in a research or higher education environment Ability to move large/heavy items such as loaded trolleys, waste receptacles etc. (Reasonable adjustments will be considered in the case of applicants with a disability) Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of information where appropriate Ability to safely work with and handle tomatoes, gluten-containing ingredients and milk/ dairy products on a regular basis.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills & Experience Holds a current (clean) UK driving license (reasonable adjustments will be considered for applicants with a disability) Familiarity or experience with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) food management system Previous experience or familiarity with freeze-drying equipment or drying Desirable foods 3 A Levels grades A-D or equivalent (with at least one A-Level being science based)
