Decontamination Technician
Our client, a leading independent Oil & Gas operator, are currently seeking a Decontamination Operative to join their team.
This is an initial 12-month contract position, working Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week with a requirement for flexibility on working patterns as operationally required.
The position is based at the decontamination facility (North of Dorchester), although applicants will need transport and mobility to work at all Wytch Farm sites locally.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Working with NORM contaminated equipment.
- Decontamination of NORM contaminated equipment.
- Equipment Dismantling and size reducing to allow safe decontamination.
- Pre-use checks of decontamination equipment
- Waste Processing and packing in accordance with disposal site acceptance criteria.
- Plant and equipment operations to safely permit decontamination activities.
- Monitoring of equipment for release from facility
- Monitoring and controlling work sites when working with NORM
- Enclosed space working.
- The working conditions will require the post holder to wear appropriate PPE/RPE.
Qualifications/Skills Required (some of which will be provided)
- NORM Awareness training
- Competent in the use of UHP water jet equipment and how to safely use it in accordance with the Water Jetting Association code of practice.
- Physical ability to use UHP water jet equipment safely and responsibly.
- Competent in the use of lifting equipment and accessories, including slinging and fleeting.
- Awareness of manual handling and how to safely lift/move objects.
- Competent in the use of Health Physics monitoring equipment.
- General Safety Awareness and appreciation.
- A flexible attitude to work and willing to learn, there will be various training on duties such as the use of UHP equipment, lifting equipment, and relevant PPE/RPE.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- Ability to understand work and safety instructions and appreciate the requirement to work safely.
Role Purpose
The primary focus of this position is to safely and effectively decontaminate plant and equipment using established decontamination techniques such as Ultra-High Pressure (UHP) Water Jetting, Scabbling, and Shot-Blasting to decontaminate the internal and/or the external contaminated surfaces.
This position will also be responsible for undertaking NORM monitoring compliance control on Wytch Farm sites, to monitor for NORM after decontamination to meet regulatory requirements to allow the item to be reused or recycled.
