Position Overview
Pattern Cutter (Wovens) – reporting to the PD Manager, based in London.
Role Overview
To create patterns that reflect TOAST’s ethos of simplicity, originality, creativity and thoughtfulness, ensuring a consistent fit and quality across all products. The role works closely with Design and Product Development teams, translating design sketches into garments, providing clear technical instructions and maintaining production‑ready pattern files for suppliers. You will manage workload within critical paths, support fit sessions, maintain pattern histories and contribute to construction manuals and seasonal reviews, all while embodying TOAST values.
Responsibilities
- Translate designers’ sketches into garments, ensuring quality, function and ease of wear.
- Create initial patterns and half toiles using block manipulation, draping, flat pattern cutting, and Gerber/CLO methods.
- Prepare clear technical information for each pattern, including measurements, construction details (seaming, topstitching, components, fusible, etc.).
- Ensure consistency of fit by following TOAST standards and body measurements.
- Produce toiles and prototype samples for fitting, steaming and pressing garments, measuring against specifications, and recording data.
- Attend fit sessions for toiles, prototypes and sealer samples, pinning and adjusting samples while advising on fit and construction.
- Digitise base patterns into Gerber, add seam allowances and annotations, and save files in the correct format for external use.
- Maintain key styles documents and core blocks to give the Product Development team accurate tools for direct supplier development.
- Attend seasonal fit review meetings and store visits, reviewing high‑returning styles to inform future seasons.
- Create and maintain construction manuals to TOAST standards, including written descriptions, drawings and photos.
- Place orders for Pattern Room supplies within budget, maintaining records.
- Maintain Pattern Room recycling processes, ensuring paper, card, and calico are recycled correctly.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in women’s wear woven pattern cutting.
- Excellent pattern‑cutting knowledge across methods – block manipulation, draping, Gerber and 3D (preferably CLO).
- Excellent understanding of garment construction.
- Exceptional understanding of TOAST, its products and design aesthetic.
- Highly organised, self‑motivated, with effective communication skills.
- Professional, collaborative, with a positive and flexible attitude.
- Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Degree level education or equivalent.
- Passion and affinity for TOAST.
- Interest in arts and culture, confidence, and open to feedback.
- Good understanding of menswear pattern cutting.
