Toad Hall Nursery was established in 1998. Our 77 place nursery in Berkhamsted is a short walk away from the lovely town centre which has a range of beautiful shops, boutiques and an array of coffee shops and restaurants. The nursery is close to transport links, having a local bus stop and Train Station which is 15 minutes’ walk away. There is a car park available for employees and families to use. The nursery is next door to a Leisure Centre, perfect for a swim or gym session before or after your working day. In 2024, our team were very proud to be awarded a ‘Good’ OFSTED rating.

We are also recruiting for part time and zero hour contract positions. Such as 12pm – 6 pm and lunch cover hours.

Role Purpose

The Nursery Nurse with SEND experience is responsible for providing 1-1 care for a child within the setting, creating an environment in which the child’s individual needs are met each day, and for supporting the management team in ensuring that high quality childcare is provided to all. This role profile is not exhaustive and the Nursery Nurse is expected to fulfil any duty as required for the effective running of the setting

Key Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Providing daily care for a child with SEND needs ensuring that they are fully supported on a 1-1 basis.
  • To work with the Key Person and Nursery SENCO to meet the targets from any IEP, targeted plan or EHCP.
  • Working together with the rest of the team to provide high quality care for children aged 0-5.
  • Ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the nursery by adhering to the relevant policies and procedures.
  • Using your knowledge, experience and imagination to come up with new ideas and activities.
  • Building relationships with children and communicating well with their parents.
  • Making sure every working day is fun!

Your Qualifications And Experience

  • Suitable qualifications: an NVQ Level 3 in Childcare or equivalent.
  • Level 3 SEND qualification
  • Experience of working with SEND children
  • Knowledge and understanding of the EYFS, and the ability to refer to the EYFS Framework when planning activities.
  • To be aware of the role of planning, observation and keeping records when caring for nursery aged children.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for working with children and meeting their needs.
  • A satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.
