THE POSITION We’re searching for a Principal Power System Design Engineer – Networks to join us at an exciting stage of our growth. KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct technical work leading to the successful completion of projects
  • Oversee and manage complex consulting projects from inception to completion
  • Coordinate with cross‑functional teams to ensure timely and within‑budget delivery
  • Team Management and Mentoring
  • Lead, mentor and develop junior consultants and team members
  • Foster a collaborative and high‑performing team environment
  • Technical Expertise & Thought Leadership
  • Stay up to date with industry development, regulatory changes and power systems design and technologies
  • Represent the company at conferences, seminars, and networking events

REQUIREMENTS

Essential requirements include:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in power system modelling and analysis for transmission and/or distribution networks.
  • Experience contributing to the design of electrical networks, including substations, cables, overhead lines, and associated plant.
  • Familiarity with network studies such as load flow, fault level, voltage, reactive power, harmonics, protection coordination, EMT, or stability assessments.
  • Experience using power system software such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, IPSA, PSCAD, PSS E, ETAP, or similar.
  • Understanding of transmission and distribution network planning and grid connection processes.
  • Ability to develop and review network designs, single‑line diagrams, technical specifications, and engineering reports.
  • Experience supporting feasibility studies, concept design, FEED/Pre‑FEED studies, or detailed design projects.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards, including the GB Grid Code, Distribution Code, ENA Engineering Recommendations, or equivalent standards.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Self‑motivated with a willingness to learn, develop, and contribute to technical excellence.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading small project teams.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership.
  • Experience with Python for analysis or automation.
  • Understanding of the energy regulatory environment.
  • Knowledge of HV asset management practices.
  • Experience in renewable energy, battery storage, data centres, industrial, utility, or generation projects.
  • Experience with grid connection applications, due diligence studies, or owner’s engineer assignments.
