TNEI Group is a rapidly growing, international, employee-owned, specialist consultancy business working in the vibrant renewable energy sector. We have an enviable reputation in our industry developed over 25 years and we are in the process of transforming our business from a small, largely UK-based, business into a medium-sized and increasingly international consultancy. As we continue to expand, we are seeking a full-time Head of Commercial and Business Development to closely work with the Board of Directors and help shape and deliver the next stage of success. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role within a respected and purpose-driven consultancy, working closely with the Managing Director and Board to influence strategy, strengthen customer relationships and drive sustainable growth across UK and international markets.
This role will specially lead the team responsible for tracking new opportunities, coordinating our pre-qualifications, supporting functional teams with tenders and bids, and reviewing and negotiating final contracts.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
- Provide commercial leadership for the Group, with full accountability for sustainable and successful work-winning and tendering.
- Team Leadership: Develop a team of both direct staff and persons embedded in the operational teams who can work together to improve work-winning and secure target bids.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, and identify and mitigate risks to the organisation.
- Provide market intelligence and commercial insight to support strategic decision making across the business.
- Directing the company’s outsourcing and offshoring strategies.
- Help drive expansion into new geographic markets by selecting the appropriate mode of entry and market strategy.
- Stakeholder management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including existing and new customers, government, industry partners, regulatory agencies and joint venture partners.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the Renewables/Energy sector and identify future opportunities for TNEI to respond to market needs and changes, adding value for all of our customers and developing relationships with potential new key customers/partners.
- Collate and disseminate market intelligence across the teams.
- Supporting our marketing and brand positioning, take the lead in influencing and participating in relevant policy and regulation consultations within the Renewables/Energy sector in all TNEI’s markets.
- Health, Safety, Environment and Security: ensure a proactive culture of no harm is at the centre of all our decision making, whilst at the same time delivering our goals.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Responsibility for all leases and operational contracts across TNEI Group including insurance, ensuring appropriate levels of cover at optimised costs.
- Primary contact and interface for legal services. Ensuring full compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Management of larger/more complex bid submissions where it is agreed that the Head of Commercial and Business Development should lead the bid.
- Commercial tender negotiations and terms and condition reviews for those more complex contracts.
- Establish and maintain systems for tracking tender opportunities with existing and target clients.
- Ensure high quality pre-qualification responses for those opportunities we want to win.
- Winning work and creating a pool of opportunities so that TNEI Group can achieve its targets by tracking appropriate portals/trade publications/websites etc to identify appropriate opportunities to bid for work.
- Establishing and building relationships with key and new potential clients; with their procurement departments to ensure best practice is followed to allow the best chance of bid success.
- Regularly meet with existing and potential customers promoting the full range of TNEI services, understanding requirements and needs across the client’s business and ensuring that this is co-ordinated across other functions and other parts of the business.
- Proactively identify, build and maintain strong strategic networks, and partnerships with relevant industry participants.
- Ensure that through these relationships, TNEI is able to identify and attract opportunities for new projects and maintain a strong reputation.
- Foster and encourage a collaborative ‘One TNEI’ culture.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN RETURN
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in commercial and/or business development roles preferably in consulting, the renewable energy sector or a related industry such as water, oil & gas, telecoms, rail or aviation.
- Commercial expertise to be able to understand customer requirements, negotiate and optimise outcomes for all stakeholders.
- Able to demonstrate a high level of negotiating skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders; creating win-win outcomes.
- Demonstrable leadership and management ability, including the ability to motivate teams to achieve common goals.
- This is especially relevant to work winning requiring multiple teams’ input.
- Knowledge of the renewable energy industry, electricity network operations, and regulatory requirements in UK is preferred.
- Proven track record of business development.
- Proven resilience to overcome challenges and navigate difficult situations.
- A high level of integrity, challenge and strong interpersonal skills.
