Job Responsibilities
- Ensure the safe and efficient delivery of a VTS (as defined by IALA) according to the area of operation, adhering to all standard operating procedures.
- Monitor and regulate marine traffic to ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations.
- Operate and monitor equipment for communications, data collection, data analysis, and establish the VTS Traffic Image.
- Respond to marine incidents and implement emergency procedures, liaising with emergency and allied services as needed.
- Maintain logs of incidents, accidents, and relevant events within the area of responsibility.
- Report equipment deficiencies to the Watch Manager.
- Undertake or facilitate necessary technical and professional training.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the manager or supervisor, which are reasonable and within the scope of the role.
- Carry out work normally performed by MCA employees, working at MCA premises in MRCC Dover alongside MCA staff.
- Follow MCA policies and procedures during work activities.
Qualifications
- IALA VTSO qualification (C0-103-1 or equivalent)
- IELTS level 7.0
- Recognized GMDSS qualification
- At least 6 months experience as a VTSO in a busy shipping area similar to CNIS and SUNK VTS areas
Additional Information
All VTS personnel must meet the English language requirements as per MGN 434. Candidates must demonstrate IELTS level 7 when applying for certification logs in the UK VTS centres.
