We are recruiting an experienced Vehicle Inspector to join a well-equipped public sector transport depot. This role is vital to ensuring the safety and compliance of a wide fleet of vehicles, including cars, vans, HGVs, and specialist plant. The ideal candidate will be customer-focused, technically strong, and able to work to a high standard under minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out MOT tests (Classes 4, 5 & 7) in line with DVSA standards
  • Inspect, diagnose, and report on vehicle and plant fleet condition and compliance
  • Work closely with workshop management to ensure operational efficiency
  • Maintain accurate testing documentation and support service audits
  • Provide technical advice, liaise with customers, and uphold high service standards
  • Support a culture of continuous improvement and legal compliance
  • Occasionally supervise or support junior team members
  • Process MOT-related payments and ensure appropriate record keeping

Requirements:

  • VOSA Approved MOT Tester (Classes 4, 5 & 7)
  • Strong mechanical background in vehicle and plant maintenance
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Motor Vehicle Maintenance
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • IT literate - comfortable using Fleet Management systems and MS Office
  • Full UK driving licence (LGV Category C preferred)
  • Experience working with local authority or public sector fleet operations
  • Forklift license and/or additional plant vehicle experience
  • Knowledge of health & safety regulations and operator licence compliance
  • Ability to work a flexible rota including standby shifts and occasional weekends
