Due to exciting growth and expansion, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Underwriting Manager to join their team, responsible for supporting, managing and motivating a team of Bridging Underwriters. You will be responsible for maintaining credit quality, managing the Underwriters to ensure the maintenance of credit standards. For this position, you will have had experience with an individual mandate level, and managing a team of underwriters working within bridging and development finance.
Duties of the Underwriting Manager (Bridging Finance) include:
- Make lending decisions in accordance with Credit Risk Policy, Bridging Lending Procedures, and individual mandate levels.
- Collaborate with Heads of Unregulated/Regulated Underwriting and Quality Assurance to provide training for the Underwriting Team.
- Partner with the Sales Team to offer guidance on deal structure and provide underwriting assistance.
- Review and authorize Credit Paper submissions, Offer Letters, and files for completion.
- Monitor the Work in Progress (WIP) of Underwriters to ensure fair case distribution within the team.
- Ensure timely advancement of applications within the specified SLAs as outlined in the Business Standards document.
- Manage team members through activities such as monthly one-on-one meetings, performance monitoring, and objective assessments.
- Adhere strictly to internal policies and regulatory mandates, including FCA, PRA, AML, Prevention of Financial Crime, and Data Protection.
- Identify improvement opportunities and proactively suggest enhancements.
- Undertake project work and handle ad-hoc tasks as directed by management.
Requirements for the successful Underwriting Manager (Bridging Finance):
- 5+ years experience working within Bridging Underwriting
- Excellent understanding of the regulatory environment
- Previous experience managing a team of underwriters is essential
- Must have experience holding a lending mandate
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, building relationships with stakeholders, intermediaries, and professionals
