As the demand for both continues to soar and industries move steadily towards more renewable and sustainable energy sources, Transmission System Operators (TSOs) are increasingly engaged in developing, extending and upgrading their power grids.
Weβre the strategic partners for our TSO customers, supporting the development and production of transmission grids, and helping to facilitate the bulk movement of electrical energy from the site of generation to electrical substations. Making innovation a cornerstone of our work, and R&D a constant investment, we offer both HVAC and HVDC cable systems for power transmission for both land and submarine connections.
Within our UK Power Grids business, our team of experienced and highly skilled High Voltage Cable Technicians are deployed to undertake Jointing and associated works on the High Voltage cables systems that form a significant component of the UKβs energy grid. This could be maintenance of the current network or assisting with the installation of new energy sources.
We are currently looking to recruit motivated and technically minded individuals to join us as Trainee Cable Technicians. This is an entry-level position, building towards an exciting career as a Cable Technician in the future.
During the 12-month training programme, which is based out of our site in Eastleigh (Hampshire), candidates will be taught skills that will enable them to work on XLPE cable installation projects and also service and repair fluid filled cables. Training will primarily take place in our dedicated Jointing School.
Having successfully completed the first 12-month training programme, Cable Technicians will be eligible for further training as part of their ongoing development towards becoming a highly skilled member of the team and the high voltage industry.
Trainee Technicians will be taught the following skills and techniques:
- Welding
- HV Elastomeric cable jointing and terminating
- HV Fluid filled cable jointing and terminating
- HV Cable system Maintenance

During the training period, candidates will be based at our site in Eastleigh, Hampshire during the week. Support is provided with accommodation and expenses for those who are not local to the area.
It is essential that candidates for this role have a full and valid driving licence due to the frequency of travel involved.
