KBR is looking to recruit a Technical Author on a 6-month contract based in Christchurch, Dorset.

On Offer:

  3. Hybrid working – 3 days in the office, 2 days from home

Role Overview:
The role will be working as part of a small technical documentation team on a wide area military communications system. The role requires the production, amendment, and management of technical documentation outputs to support the development, operation, and maintenance of the system.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Request, gather and assess the required source logistic information from equipment suppliers to inform the required technical publications.
  2. Undertake Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA) on Electronic computing and communication systems including an array of radios and masts.
  3. Author Data modules from the MTA and other publications including operating procedures and training material. This will include technical drawings.
  4. Liaise with the Training Team to provide assistance with training content.
  5. Assist in the creation and maintenance of the Data Modules Requirements List.
  6. Author new and update the full suite of descriptive, procedural, and IPD data modules to populate the Common Source Database (CSDB).
  7. Proofread and review Data Modules produced by other team members, using the CSDB workflow.
  8. Produce new IETPs using trilogi software for delivery to the customer.
  9. General assistance with other ILS and LSA Tasks.

Skills / Experience:

  1. Technical Publications specifications e.g. S1000D 4.1, Def Stan 00-601.
  2. Data Module authoring to an S1000D 4.1 standard.
  3. Standard Numbering Systems.
  4. Population and maintenance of a Data Module Requirements List (DMRL).
  5. Technical authoring processes and techniques using industry proprietary software tools preferably through an EAGLE LSAR and EAGLE Publishing System to construct a comprehensive CSDB.
  6. Knowledge and experience of XML Data Module technical authoring using EAGLE xml editor or industry equivalent.
  7. Technical Publications/IETP/CSDB Configuration Management processes.
  8. Excellent attention to detail.
  9. Knowledge of trilogi build is desirable.
  10. Illustrations.
