We have a very exciting opportunity for a Systems & Data Lead to take ownership of and deliver digital workstreams across multiple major infrastructure projects, collectively known as Thames Water\’s Strategic Resource Options (SRO) . You will be part of the SRO Directorate, responsible for developing projects that improve resilience to drought, minimize water supply interruptions in the South East, and protect the environment. These include a new reservoir, water recycling, and large-scale water transfer projects between river catchments.

Currently navigating the planning consent phase, with construction in the next 5 years and operations from 2040, the success of these projects relies heavily on emerging digital workstreams such as information management, digital systems, asset & spatial modelling, operational technology, and digital collaboration tools.

Your responsibilities include evolving, maintaining, and executing the digital strategy across project partners and subcontractors, leading a small but growing client-side team to ensure successful delivery of digital projects aligned with organizational goals.

What you’ll be doing as a Systems & Data Lead (SRO)

Your role involves strategic planning, project management, and implementing innovative digital solutions in collaboration with the core Thames Water digital teams. You will work closely with Partners and subcontractors, overseeing their digital strategies to ensure alignment with the client\’s portfolio-specific digital strategy.

  1. Evolving, maintaining, and executing the digital strategy.
  2. Overseeing planning, execution, and delivery of digital projects within scope, time, and budget.
  3. Providing strategic oversight to SRO Partners to ensure their plans and digital approaches align with both SRO and Thames Water strategies.
  4. Leading, mentoring, and developing the digital capability of the team.
  5. Managing IM team operations, document control, CDEs (Asite, SharePoint, partner CDEs), and ISO19650 compliance.
  6. Ensuring ISO19650 standards are met and maintained.
  7. Accountability for Cyber Security protocols, policies, and standards development and enforcement.
  8. Managing Data structures and reporting, with future scope for advanced insights using AI, VR, AR, etc.
  9. Managing a focused project management capability for scheduling and controlling multiple projects and initiatives.
  10. Ensuring digital compliance with regulatory bodies like DEFRA, OFFWAT, PINS, and RAPID, including DEIA and Digital Twins initiatives.

This is a hybrid role based out of Camelford House, London, requiring attendance 2 days a week, with occasional travel to Reading.

  • Strategic planning and implementation capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Prince2).
  • Knowledge of digital tools relevant to water industry/infrastructure (e.g., SCADA, Digital Twins, GIS) is desirable.
  • Experience with data management and systems.
