The strategy analyst provides critical support to Strategy Managers by providing robust analytical insights. This likely means working across multiples propositions and areas of focus simultaneously.
This will enable the definition and delivery of category strategy for Halfords Retail and Garages over a 1-3 year time horizon.
The nature of the role is to think ahead and agitate our teams to deliver longer term financial health for our business and our shareholders. Actively identifying and responding to longer term threats and opportunities that can be capitalised on for our business. To think about the really big picture, but come down to the minutia detail to unlock any opportunities right in front of us.
This role will help define how we are going to develop our Retail/Garages business for future success.

Key accountabilities
- Supporting the Head of Proposition + Category Strategy, and Strategy Managers in the team, to shape and deliver a strategic plan that identifies and responds to scaled opportunities and threats for Halfords over the next three years.
- Data gathering . Define and work collaboratively to source the right information to answer critical strategic questions – both with internal business teams, data warehouses and external agencies – then scope and conduct key analyses.
- Analysis . Conducting a range of quantitative and qualitative analyses to identify proposition development opportunities (. category, range, format level) to step change our offer for customers.
- Diagnostics . Conduct broad diagnostic analyses across market segments, competitors and categories to scope out critical strategic questions and initial hypotheses.
- Modelling . Design and run financial models / business cases to determine the viability and priority of projects or strategies
- Develop insights . Draw out insights and recommendations for key questions, feed into overall concept development with strategy managers and stakeholder groups
- Trials . Support trial design to ensure right metrics are tracked to test and refine concepts. Track and measure the results of proposition delivery and feed back to Proposition Managers / wider team so that the design can be refined.
Skills & Experience
- Focus on the customer and desire to understand their current & future needs.
- Passion for retail and consumer-facing industries.
- Proven strong problem solving capability with experience working in a retail, services or other customer facing organization.
- Ability to grasp the big picture and prioritise tasks accordingly.
- Experience in interpreting data, spotting trends, drawing conclusions and making recommendations to turn data into actionable insight.
- Analytical background and experience, particularly on the quantitative side.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel (proficiency in databases, . SQL, is desirable).
- Collaborative style, used to working cross functionally Ability to collaborate with colleagues in different functions to collect data and conduct analysisExperience in communicating analysis findings and recommendations both in verbal and written forms
- Experience of creating, developing or contributing to insight-led propositions and brand strategies that step change the customer experience / perception.
