Job Description:

What you’ll be doing: We’ll get you started right away, learning some job specific skills. You’ll create effective and secure software solutions using contemporary software development techniques, as well as learn about different development methodologies and how to undertake analysis and design to create and deliver software that needs to be running non-stop, all day, every day. We’ll teach you how to produce high quality code with sound syntax in at least one language and maybe more – the sky is your limit!

Day to day, you’ll be performing code review and debugging and refactoring, as well as testing code. You’ll work with our internal software development teams to create software solutions using industry standard build processes for our customers, as well as looking at things like version control, and how to release and deploy code into enterprise environments. Don’t worry if this all sounds new to you. We’re not expecting you to come in with any prior knowledge and will teach you everything you need to know as part of the apprenticeship programme.

You’ll learn how to deliver the very best software products, helping teams provide an effortless experience for our customers and staff wherever they are in the world, using whatever device and technology they choose.

The apprentice training course: As an Apprentice Software Engineer, you’ll study for a Level 6 apprenticeship in Software Engineering.

Hours: 37.5 hrs Mon – Fri

Start date: September 2025

Duration: Your apprenticeship will last for 48 months. You’ll spend a minimum of 20% of your time learning and studying.

The qualifications you’ll need: Three A-Levels with a minimum of BCC grades, 120 UCAS points. You’ll also need a minimum of five GCSEs at grades 4-9 (C or above) including English and Maths.

After this apprenticeship: On completing your apprenticeship, you could be employed in a specialist Software team within BT Networks. Additionally, there are opportunities for leadership roles both regionally and nationally for those aspiring to more senior positions within BT.
