The Allied World Commercial team has strong relationships with our broking partners across the UK, and we are committed to providing effective products and excellent service. We are recruiting for a Senior Underwriter in our London office to help grow our Real Estate/Property Owners book of business.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Development of the Allied World Real Estate/Property Owners portfolio by exploring opportunities with existing partners and establishing new relationships.
- Perform extensive account analysis according to underwriting guidelines, including review of applications, risk management protocols, online research, and liaising with other departments to understand risk exposures and complete underwriting worksheets.
- Perform referrals with relevant contacts as required.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate issuance of policies.
- Work closely with the wider Commercial Division to contribute to strategic planning and execution.
- Liaise with actuarial support to develop premium benchmarking and pricing models, and develop account pricing/recommendations.
- Authorize quotes, binders, and invoices per company guidelines.
- Ensure receipt and review of outstanding information to confirm terms and conditions at binding.
- Maintain underwriting files systematically following guidelines.
- Supervise work of other underwriters as appropriate and oversee the professional development of team members.
- Attend client and broker meetings, industry conferences, and social events to foster relationships and discuss business topics.
Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of demonstrable experience underwriting commercial combined or property insurance.
- Excellent analytical skills with solid knowledge of pricing and actuarial models.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for daily client and broker interactions, presentations, and relationship building.
- Strong marketing and business development skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate at various levels.
- Proficiency in MS Office and underwriting systems.
- Methodical, well-organized, and capable of managing conflicting priorities.
- Team-oriented with a coaching approach for developing junior team members.
