Job Description:

Delkia is a specialist engineering & technology company for safety-related and mission critical systems in Defence and Nuclear sectors. Our offer incorporates: systems integration, engineering design and technical consultancy.

Location: Cumbria /Preston/ Hybrid

Job type: Contract, outside IR35

Rate: Competitive

The Senior Simulation & Modelling Engineer (SSME) will be responsible for the simulation modelling for complex control systems and algorithm development. Reporting to the Programme Engineering Manager(s) and Project Manager(s), the SSME will support programme and project completion for simulation-based work for in-house and client projects. They will be an expert in field technically and be willing to develop and manage small specialist teams.

Key responsibilities

  1. Provide technical consultancy to clients and internal stakeholders.
  2. Support and provide input into Delkia’s strategy for modelling investment and training.
  3. Support ongoing projects as a SSME.
  4. Act as one of the company subject matter experts for simulation development.
  5. Work with other engineering capabilities; including research and development for both internal and external projects.

Desired Qualifications / Prerequisites:

  1. Strong MATLAB and Simulink skills and use of Matlab code generation toolboxes for algorithm development and system design skills.
  2. Sound underlying analytical and mathematical knowledge to be able to define the problem to conduct trade off studies, parameter sweeps and optimisation.
  3. Experience of Bitbucket, GIT and JIRA desirable.
  4. Generate robust reports using sound analytical methods to discuss the problem, the solution, trade-offs, and recommendations going forward.
  5. Model-based design skills.
  6. Familiarity with classical control theory would be helpful but not necessary.
  7. Practical working knowledge of automated code generation techniques, and design choices that affect code performance.
  8. Use of continuous integration and continuous delivery systems to enable regular deployment of models to hardware.
  9. Correctness of design.
  10. Practical knowledge of test and verification methodologies including formal methods.
  11. Use of simulation to capture scenarios to develop success criteria.
  12. Experience in modelling and simulation.
  13. A degree / master’s degree in systems engineering (or similar) would be preferable.
  14. Chartered status through the IET preferable.
  15. Outstanding communication skills with sound business related knowledge.
  16. Ability to support colleagues at all levels effectively and professionally even when presented with extreme circumstances.
