An exciting opportunity for an ambitious Senior Scientist with Protein Characterisation (RP, SEC, icIEF) and/or Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) experience to join our outstanding team at Lonza. Based in Slough (UK), this role is pivotal to our ongoing success and growth. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for planning and executing analytical testing on therapeutic proteins to support product Characterisation and Biocomparability studies for our customers. You will collaborate with peers across teams to ensure meticulous execution of projects and identify refinements to our standard ways of working. This role offers an outstanding chance to contribute to significant scientific advancements.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan and execute analytical assays such as HPLC methods, electrophoresis, LC/MS-based methods, and higher-order structure methods to characterise biologics products.
- Perform assays with a focus on safety, quality, timeliness, and accuracy, adhering to regulatory requirements where applicable.
- Complete and peer review laboratory documentation.
- Maintain analytical equipment, technologies, and systems supporting characterisation stages.
- Communicate progress and escalate challenges to the Line Manager or study director as appropriate.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and escalate technical issues effectively and promptly.
- Provide practical training and participate in scientific discussions.
- Join the out-of-hours call-out rota to respond to alarms on cold storage units.
Key requirements:
- Practical industry experience in a relevant laboratory environment, including HPLC, LC-MS, and electrophoresis.
- Experience in the use and troubleshooting of analytical equipment.
- Theoretical knowledge of protein chemistry and regulatory requirements for characterisation and biochemical comparability studies.
- Ability to analyse data, interpret results, and perform root cause analyses.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team to meet business, regulatory, and customer needs, including mentoring team members.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for customer interactions and training.
- Proficiency in drafting protocols, reports, and SOPs.
