Aviva Marine can trace its involvement in the Marine insurance market back to 1824 and is now a market leader in the cargo market with a significant share in the IUA cargo company market space and a growing share of the UK regional Marine market. We aim to profitably grow this sector over the coming years, which is why we have an opportunity for a Senior Marine Underwriter to join our tenacious team. A bit about the job: This role is key to the continued success, growth, and ambition we have for Marine. You will be working within the UK regional underwriting team, which consists of thirteen other likeminded individuals. The team plays an important role in the wider Marine business, working alongside our London retail and wholesale colleagues in the Aviva London office and from the box at Lloyds of London. The majority of the business you will write will be UK domiciled; we have all the necessary licenses to write business globally.
Experience of writing cargo and freight liability business is essential, and being part of an extensive team, you will have significant opportunities to develop your technical knowledge and capability beyond what you know today.
You will have accountability for:
- Ensuring the allocated business is in line with plan requirements for all Marine business written & renewed
- Delivering the volume, quality, and profitability of growth opportunities to the Line of Business which enables them to hit their plan targets
- Building relationships with brokers and customers, internally and externally with travel, as necessary
- The performance and development of the risks assigned to you and as per plan. Plans include metrics for new and renewal targets for GWP, NWP, Loss Ratio, Expense Ratio, and Combined Ratio, and rate achievement
- Case by case judgement required to ensure overall strategy and governance targets are complied with
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Experience in underwriting and handling cargo and freight liability business
- Proven record of underwriting a portfolio, including understanding the metrics required to monitor such a portfolio
- Well regarded by brokers with the ability to build and maintain relationships
- Results oriented
- The ability to plan and prioritize effectively
