The Vacancy

Binnies, an RSK company, has opened a new office in Birmingham. You will have the opportunity to work on interesting flood, coastal, and maritime projects for clients like the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, and local authorities. This is a unique chance to join a new team and help grow our flood, coastal, and maritime business across the Midlands and beyond. Our work includes feasibility studies, business case preparation, designing cost-efficient schemes using digital technologies, providing construction supervision, and advising on asset management.

About the Role

  • Coordinate, quality assure, and lead the delivery of flood risk assessments, strategies, plans, and scheme designs.
  • Work in a high-performance, friendly team to produce quality deliverables.
  • Manage and mentor junior staff.
  • Understand project scope and deliver within budget and schedule.
  • Follow standards, best practices, and quality systems.

This role suits candidates with backgrounds in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Water & Environmental Management, or related fields.

Qualifications, skills, and knowledge required include:

  • A degree in Science, Engineering, Geography, or Environmental Science.
  • Chartered status with CIWEM, ICE, or equivalent.
  • Significant experience in the environmental sector, consultancy, contracting, or public sector.
  • Project management experience, including monitoring and delivering within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and practices in flood and coastal management.
  • Understanding of health and safety legislation, including CDM Regulations.
  • For science/geography backgrounds: experience with flood and coastal datasets, risk assessments, and strategies.
  • For engineering backgrounds: experience with feasibility assessments, design packages, engineering calculations, and site supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain technical information clearly.
  • Commercial awareness, including tendering and contract management.
  • Experience managing and recruiting junior staff.
  • Knowledge of flood hydrology and modelling methods.
  • Experience with flood alleviation projects at various stages.
  • Experience working with stakeholders, including communities.
