Job Description:
Morningstar’s mission is to empower investor success. We strive to illuminate investing in support of this mission, so we can reach and inspire current and future investors. We’re looking for a strong editor and strategist to join our team. You’ll contribute in a major way to the evolution of our global editorial group.
In this role, you’ll be a part of the global audience team focused on driving audience growth through onsite content experiences, email newsletters, and third-party platforms. You’ll help connect people with our investing ideas, markets coverage, and personal finance tips on global Morningstar sites and through off-platform distribution.
We’re looking for someone who will:
- Drive audience growth through onsite content lineups, email newsletters, and third-party platforms.
- Develop and publish daily content lineups for our editorial experiences in Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom, along with a regional Europe website. Make intra-day updates for breaking news when appropriate.
- Coordinate the sharing of content between country site editors and help the team execute the global content strategy in the day-to-day.
- Collaborate with U.S. and Canada engagement editors to pitch Europe-focused content relevant in those markets and accept story pitches for Europe. Contribute pre-market updates to Morningstar.com in the U.S. when needed.
- Develop understanding of audience topics for each site and represent the reader perspective during editorial planning sessions.
- Oversee content performance throughout the day and adjust lineups accordingly using news judgment, Morningstar priorities, traffic data, and headline testing capabilities.
- Be aware of the top stories driving the market and evaluate how best to tap into the investing conversation of the day including evaluating newswire stories.
- Use news judgment and SEO skills to test headlines and tweak content both before and after publishing.
Experience we’d like to see:
- 8+ years of experience in content strategy or journalism, preferably with a prominent digital news organization. Time spent working in investing news or with a financial services organization is a plus as is experience working for a global organization.
- Experience with investing for yourself and interest in the topic is preferred.
- Experience with tools like Fathom Analytics, Google Analytics, ChartBeat, Parse.ly, FeedOtter, and ARC Publishing.
- Hands-on experience writing effective headlines.
- A strong understanding of search engine optimization practices.
- Superb communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Fluency in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Dutch, or Swedish would be an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work with designers, developers, editors, and subject-matter experts.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail.
- Experience with AP Style.
Morningstar’s hybrid work environment gives you the opportunity to work remotely and collaborate in-person each week. We’ve found that we’re at our best when we’re purposely together on a regular basis, at least three days each week. A range of other benefits are also available to enhance flexibility as needs change. No matter where you are, you’ll have tools and resources to engage meaningfully with your global colleagues.
