About the role
You will be part of a world-leading team in correlative in situ imaging of advanced manufacturing processes, with strong links to synchrotron facilities and industrial collaborators. Your role will be to use and further apply in situ process replicators and correlative imaging, including ultra-fast synchrotron X-ray, chemical, and optical imaging, to study process and defect dynamics during powder-based additive manufacturing (AM). You will use correlative measurements to devise printing strategies for sustainable AM to enhance powder recycling and reuse. You will also develop and apply AI/ML and high-fidelity CFD models of the AM process. You will collaborate closely with industrial partners, including Meggitt Aerospace Ltd (a subsidiary of Parker Hannifin Corporation). The position is based at Harwell Campus, Oxfordshire. This is a 24-month contract with potential extension.
About you
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD and possess extensive expertise in additive manufacturing, surface and bulk analysis methods, powder processing, optics, signal processing, and related fields. Experience in imaging, image analysis, and microstructural analysis is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research, publish in leading international journals, and work proactively. Strong communication, teamwork skills, and proficiency in English are essential. You will join a dynamic group at the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH, Oxfordshire), led by Prof. Lee and Dr. Leung, focusing on in situ synchrotron X-ray techniques to study advanced materials and processing.
